About Standard Sheets / Pieces
MDF stands for 'Medium Density Fibreboard'. It is a building sheet material created by using wood fibres and bonding them with an adhesive, heat and pressure.
The finished product is a sturdy sheet material used for various projects, including kitchens, shelving, furniture, speaker boxes, radiator covers, skirting boards, door linings and more.
MDF sheets are popular with tradespeople as they are simple to work with and offer fantastic value for money. They have a smooth surface, making these sheets easy to sand, seal, and paint to get a perfect finish for your desired project.

FAQs
Are MDF sheets waterproof?
While we offer water-resistant MDF sheets, it is advised to seal them first before putting MDF in high-moisture areas. This is because water can enter the wood board and cause it to swell, distorting it.
Can MDF pieces be painted?
Yes, MDF pieces and sheets can be painted. However, it is advised that you use a water-resistant sealer on all sides of the sheets before using water-based paint.
Sealer is used to stop the paint soaking into the board, and you need to apply multiple coats for maximum effect. You should always lightly sand MDF between coats of paint.
What are MDF sheets made of?
MDF sheets are carefully crafted by mixing small wood fibres with a bonding adhesive (such as resin or wax). Usually, MDF is made from small fibres of softwood, which are pressed at a high-heat and high-pressure to become a wooden board. The result is a durable, flexible building material.
