Decking

Building a Deck is now one of the most popular and rewarding DIY projects that can not only add value to your home, but also create an attractive and versatile outdoor feature.

As a natural material, timber blends in with the natural elements of the garden. It is also a versatile product that can be painted and stained to suit your needs.

Deck designs can vary from a simple alternative to a stone patio, to an elevated multi-level structure. A deck can cover a worn out lawn or concrete yard, or create a level and useful space over an undulating garden.

Ground level Decks are an attractive alternative to traditional patios and are probably more straight forward to plan and construct. When planning your deck, it is useful to draw up a simple plan of the layout, paying careful consideration to size, location and access. Make best use of existing conditions within your garden e.g. sun or shade. Remember the positioning of your deck will have a great deal of bearing on how often you use it.

Once you have decided your layout you can draw up your working plan, it is better to make any mistakes on paper than during construction process. You will need to take into account the position, structure, the surface pattern and the balustrade. Our sales staff will be pleased to help you calculate the quantities of materials you will need from your drawing.

Whatever your choice, Harlow Bros. have the components readily available to suit your needs. Harlow Decking is produced in our own sawmill from high quality seasoned Scandinavian Redwood and is pressure treated to resist decay.

Harlow decking and components are pressure impregnated in our own treatment plant. The preservative is permanently fixed within the timber and cannot be washed out. So, once dry, it presents no hazard to the environment. The treatment leaves the timber a light green colour, which will weather in time to a grey or silver colour.

All components are available from HARLOW depots, including galvanised nails, brackets, bolts etc. Because corrosion is a major problem for outdoor structures, galvanised or stainless steel fixings should be used. Our sales staff will be more than happy to recommend the correct fixings to suit your needs.
